Het nieuwe asfalt in Daytona werd door Marc Goossens beschreven als heel goed en smooth. De vorige asfaltlaag was heel hobbelig in de bochten met de 31° banking. Dit zal vooral ten goede komen tijdens inhaalmanoeuvres.Â
Marc Goossens said the new asphalt at Daytona International Speedway was very good and smooth. The banked 31° corners are now without the bumps what will make it better for passing and driving side by side.
De snelste tijd in de twee sessies warden gereden door de #01 BMW Riley van Ganassi Racing met als piloten Joey Hand, Scott Pruett, Graham Rahal en Memo Rojas. Ze werden op de hielen gezeten door 3 teams met name de #8 Starworks Ford Riley van Dalziel/Forest/Lowe, de #02 Ganassi BMW Riley van Dixon/Franchitti/McMurray/Montoya en de #10 Suntrust Chevrolet Dallara van Angelelli/Briscoe/Taylor/Taylor. Â
Fastest time in the 2 sessions was for #01 BMW Riley from Ganassi Racing driven by Joey Hand, Scott Pruett, Graham Rahal and Memo Rojas. They were closely followed by 3 teams : #8 Starworks Ford Riley  Dalziel/Forest/Lowe,  #02 Ganassi BMW Riley Dixon/Franchitti/McMurray/Montoya and #10 Suntrust Chevrolet Dallara Angelelli/Briscoe/Taylor/Taylor. Â
De #60 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley kwam in de eerste sessie niet verder dan de 13de tijd met 1'43"007 waarmee ze bijna 2 seconden te kort kwamen op de snelste tijd. Marc Goossens " De auto moet nog verbeteren. We gaan verder werken aan de set up in de tweede sessie".
The #60 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley could only manage a 1'43"007 during first practice, about 2 seconds of the pace of the fastest car. Marc Goossens " The car has to improve. We are going to work in the set up in the second session".Â
In de tweede sessie draaiden ze de 7de tijd met 1'42"047. Een verbetering met een volle seconde waarmee ze nog 1 seconde tekort komen op de snelste tijd. Marc Goossens " De auto was beter maar nog niet goed genoeg. Wat wel goed is, is dat de 4 piloten exact hetzelfde voelen en in dezelfde richting willen werken".
During the second session they drove the 7th time with 1'42"047. This is an improvement of a second, but still a full second of the pace of the lead car. Marc Goossens " the car was better now but still not good enough. The good thing is that all 4 drivers are feeling the same and want to work in the same direction".

Voor CPL-rijder Marc Goossens is het na 2 jaar afwezigheid een prettig weerzien in het Grand-Am kampioenschap. In 2007 en 2008 reed hij een volledig seizoen in dit kampioenschap aan de zijde van Jim Matthew met een Pontiac Riley voor Riley-Matthews racing. Zijn schitterende overwinningen in Salt Lake City en Mexico City staan nog vers in het geheugen bij de Amerikaanse autosport liefhebbers.Â
CPL Driver Marc Goossens is back after 2 years not competing in Grand Am. In 2007 and 2008 he drove full season as team mate of Jim Matthews with Riley Matthews Racing. His awesome wins in Salt Lake City and Mexico City are fresh in the minds of the American racing fans.
