BACK IN TIME : THE AJ COLLECTION : TRUCK RACING2011-01-12

Truck Racing is spectaculair. Sinds deze tak van de Autosport in de jaren 80 een FIA kampioenschap werd zijn ze ook elk jaar op bezoek in Zolder gekomen. Hier wat foto's van deze mastodonten van de weg. 

Truck Racing is very spectacular. Since this form of motorsport became a FIA championship the heavy trucks visited Zolder every year.

Met deze Volvo experimenteerde men om een sportievere look te geven.

They tried to make this Volvo look more like a race truck.

Tegenwoordig moeten de trucks beschikken over een roetfilter. In de beginjaren werd dit niet zo nauw genomen.

Nowadays trcks may not smoke anymore. In the early years it was part of the show.

Soms ging het al eens mis. Hier knalde een truck door de muur aan de eerste linkse. Gelukkig was deze zone verboden voor het publiek bij deze races. Zwaar geschut werd bovengehaald om hem te bergen.

Sometimes it went wrong. Here a truck went through the wall of the first left corner at Circuit Zolder. Luckily there was no crowd allowed in this zone. They had to use heavy material to rescue the truck.

Na een weekend truck racen is er steeds veel werk om de piste weer in perfecte staat te krijgen.

After a truck race weekend it is always hard working to bring the track back in good shape.

In de regen is het nog moeilijker om deze trucks op de baan te houden.

In the rain it is even harder to control the trucks.
