BACK IN TIME : NASCAR @ DAYTONA 20102011-01-19

Op 20 februari wordt opnieuw de Daytona 500 verreden. Aan deze openingsrace van het NASCAR seizoen gaan 10 dagen van NASCAR gekte vooraf. Alles in en rond Daytona Beach staat dan in teken van deze fantastische race. Het weekend vooraf wordt er reeds om de dollars en eer gestreden in de Budweiser Shootout. Over enkele weken kan je via deze blog de Daytona Speedweeks op de voet volgen.  Hier een blog over vorig jaar.

On February 20 we will be at the Daytona 500 to report about this great race. It is not only that Sunday that counts, but there are 10 days of NASCAR madness ahead of this race. Tijdens het volkslied heerst er een adembenemende stilte en staan de meer dan 200.000 toeschouwers allemaal recht.

De trucks van de NASCAR teams zijn allemaal enorm uitgerust en van op hun dak volgen ze de wagens tijdens de trainingen.

In de pits is het altijd een beetje chaos. wagens komen binnen, anderen vertrekken weer.

In Daytona ben je niets als je alleen werkt. Ze duwen elkaar tegen snelheden van een stuk boven de 300 km/h om samen nog iets sneller te gaan. Bad boy #18 Kyle Busch duwt 5 voudig kampioen #48 Jimmie Johnson.

1 van de populairste piloten is Danica Patrick. Bij de Indycars heeft ze al mooie prestaties neergezet, in de NASCAR gaat ze hopelijk in 2011 doorbreken.

Dit jaar zal er een nieuwe asfalt laag liggen en voorspellen de rijders dat we vaker 3 wagens naast mekaar gaan krijgen.
